Sekolah Harapan, Melaka

SEKOLAH HARAPAN, the first school for pregnant teenage girls in Malaysia was opened on 20th September 2010. Till date, 5 pregnant teenagers have enrolled in the school. These pregnant teens will continue their academic, religious or moral studies there. They will also learn about proper pre-natal and post-natal medicare care for themselves and their babies.

What is your opinion on pregnant teens? Do you think they deserved to be given a second change in life? Is setting up Sekolah Harapan a right action? How would this action affect the morality of male and female Malaysian teens?

What say you?

  1. Erm..a good thing to ponder over. Thank you Miss Cheong for raising this issue.

With the increasing number of dumping babies cases, Sekolah Harapan seems to be a good move taken by the Malaka goverment. Although it created much controvercy in the beginning, the enrolment of 5 students proved that our teenagers need our help. They need a place to prepare them for this scruplous world, not the sneer or condemnation from the society.

And of course i agree to give them a second chance .If this happened to your own children, would you rather let them roaming helplessly looking for a shelter? In a way, looking at these students walking bravely towards the school albeit the photographers frolicking over them show that they have admitted their mistakes, and ready to undo the mistakes perhaps.

One thing for sure, at least we can feel relief knowing the babies are safely kept in their wombs instead finding them lifeless in some drains or at the garbage sites!!

  2. Miss Wani, I totally agree with you that these pregnant teens should be given a second chance in life. After all, they are courageous in admitting their mistakes. They also seem very determined to overcome their problems even though some people in our society might be snickering or laughing at them.

KMPh students, what do you think about pregnant teens?
